Wednesday April 8 2020 Update

Update: 3:50pm Wednesday

Hey there guys, so I am about half way through the SS 10 class re: making calls and contacting directly still so if I missed you today I will be ringing tomorrow AM :)

Update 10am Wednesday April 8th 2020

Hello all!!!

Ok! So Socials "work" for today!

Please ensure that every morning you check the class blog here - I have also linked it to the top tool bar on the new RSS Socials 10 Hathorn Team in Microsoft Team that you have all been added to.

Your "work" for today is to:

Step 1: Download the Office 365 Teams App to your laptop, phone, tablet etc :)

Step 2: Login to Teams - check out the SS Socials 10 Hathorn Team in Microsoft Team - review the top tool bar. I have linked our blog there and also I recommend that you take a peek at the 'Class Notebook' and locate your student folder. Review the tabs options :) This will be how you upload and receive feedback on future assignments, group work etc.

Step 3: What's next? We will be moving forwards with our classwork as of early next week - Tuesday April 14th (after the holiday Monday) I will be setting up our first live class for next week (most likely Tuesday or Wednesday). Be sure to check your school email/personal email (I'll be sending the same info to both) for info as to our future Teams Live Classes.

Steps 4: If you haven't already - please review the April 6th blog post where I review the updated syllabus for this class and the content we will be going through for the remainder of the semester :)

Step 5: If you need assistance with anything please email me direct at ahathorn@sd19.bc.ca

Ideas for something to view this week re: WW1? If you haven't already rent/download and view (iTunes is a great option) 1917 :) An amazing film that really highlights what life in the trenches was truly like for allied soldiers during WW1. They even mention the Canadian Newfoundlander division in the film!

Note: I will be finishing up some of my check in calls today to most of you :)

As a reminder you now also have access to your very own Office 365 Outlook email.  Please be sure to regularly check this email address for potential updates and information from me. Again, as a back up I will also be sending you (and your parents) updates weekly to the emails you provided me during my check in calls this past week.

Finally, I also want to communicate with you re: the process regarding picking up personal effects/ textbooks/musical instruments from the school.  The school will be ready for this process on Thursday, April 9th.  Families will be able to pick up:
  • locker contents
  • textbooks - Let me know if you do not have access to your SS 10 textbook for any reason :) Email me at alphathorn@gmail.com with this information.
  • musical instruments
  • lost and found items, including gym strip left in changerooms
Before you come to the RSS Community Entrance (across from the arena) ensure that your parents (if they are coming for your belongings) know your locker number, what other textbooks you've been told to pick-up, if you had gym strip left at the school and what it looks like, if they need to take a musical instrument, or anything that might be in the lost and found.

The process to actually pick up the 'stuff' will take just a couple of minutes, however RSS will demand strict physical distancing.  The process will be defined by an alphabetical-by-last-name system.

The following schedule will be used to ensure that RSS does not break the Public Health Office's Directives:

Time             Last Name

8:30-9:20          A, B
9:20-10:10        C
10:10-11:00       D, E, F
11:00-11:50       G, H
11:50-12:40        I, J, K, L
12:40-1:30          M
1:30-2:20            N, O, P, Q, R
2:20-3:10            S
3:10-4:00             T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z

If your parent/guardian cannot come at your assigned time, RSS will allow the time from 4:00-4:30 for pick up.  If you cannot make any of these times on Thursday, please come Tuesday, April 14th from 11:00-12:00.  If other arrangements must be made, please contact Mr. Kenyon directly next Tuesday April 14, 2020.

Stay healthy and stay safe!
